WorldSock - How to use Internet Explorer 4.0 with WorldSock

Problem

Internet Explorer 4.0 does not work with WorldSock. Users are unable to download any pages using WorldSock.

Cause

Internet Explorer 4.0 includes the Desktop Update component, which causes Internet Explorer to begin running before WorldSock is loaded. Any Internet program will only work when loaded after a TCP/IP stack (eg WorldSock) has been loaded.

Solutions

To be able to use Internet Explorer 4.0 with WorldSock, you must either disable the Desktop Update component, or enable the advanced Internet Explorer option 'Browse In A New Process'. We recommend that you remove the desktop update component, however if you wish to keep the Desktop Update component installed, then enable Browse in a new process instead.

Sysop Note:

A number of people that have ended up re-installing W95 just to get rid of IE4 because of various problems. Solution: Use Netscape Communicator 4.
