and run "Setup.exe"
Windows

Is Dial-Up Networking Installed?
- Open the "Control Panel"
then double click "Network".
- There should be an item called "Dial-Up
Networking" in the list presented. If this is not
present, continue to the next section, "Installing
Dial-Up Networking".
- Assuming you have a dial-up adapter installed,
now check further down the list for an entry labelled "TCP/IP
on Dial-Up Adapter". If this is present, then
you have dial-up networking fully installed. Please continue to the next
section, "Making a New
Connection".
- If there is no entry labelled "TCP/IP on
Dial-Up Adapter", then you must install this protocol following
these instructions.
- Open "Control Panel"
and double click the "Network" icon.
- Choose the "Add" button in the window
presented.
- A window, titled "Select Network
Component Type" will be presented. Choose "Protocol".
- This brings up another window titled "Select
Network Protocol"
- In the left window, choose "Microsoft",
then in the selections in the right window, choose "TCP/IP"
- Win95 will now install this protocol, maybe
asking you for your Win95 CD.
- If you are presented with an option box with
settings for the new protocol, you need to select the "WINS
Configuration" tab and select the box "Disable
WINS".
- If you dont get an option box (This is variable
depending on the original install configuration), You will be presented
with an alert window declaring your machine was "Unable
to communicate with DHCP server", and asking you if you
want to see future DHCP messages. Select "No".
- You will now be asked to reboot your machine.
When it is complete, you may proceed to the final section, "Making
a New Connection".
Installing
Dial-Up Networking
- Goto the "Start" menu,
and choose "Programs", "Accessories",
"Internet Tools"
- Select to run "Internet
Connection Wizard".
- This Win95 Program will then guide you through
the steps necessary to get dial-up networking installed and working.
- When asked for some details about your Internet
Service Provider (ISP), enter the details at the top of this page. You
will then be able to connect to Ace.
Making
a New Connection
The easiest way to make a new
connection with Windows95 is to download this small file,
AceNet.REG. Download it to a temporary
folder and run it by double-clicking on it. You will then have a new
connection with all the correct details. All you must do is right click
the properties of the new connection and specify your modem.
- Dial-Up Networking should now be installed. Goto
the "Start" menu, then "Programs",
and "Accessories".
- Select the item called "Dial-Up
Networking".
- In the window presented, double click the icon
labelled "Make a New Connection"
- Run through the wizard, providing appropriate
answers to the simple questions.
- Once the wizard has finished, right click the
icon for your new connection and select the properties.
- On the "General"
tab, make sure everything is in order, the modem selected is the correct
one, and the number entered for Ace is 8357-8775.
- On the "Server Types"
tab, check the boxes "Log onto Network"
and "Enable Software Compression".
Untick the box labelled "Require Encrypted Password".
- In the "Allowed Network
Protocols" section, make sure only TCP/IP has a tick.
(unless you have special need for other protocols)
- The rest of the settings will be ok, by default.
Select "Ok" and then double click your
connection icon to connect.
